DR PHILLIP LAW

Dr Phillip Law was born in 1912 in Victoria, Australia. He trained as a physicist and served as director of the Antarctic Division for many years. He made many voyages to Antarctica and organised the setting up of the various Australian Antarctic Bases in the 1950s. Law Base which has been used on an intermittent basis is named after Dr Law. |

Note: Kingston, Tasmania is the headquarters for the Australian Antarctic Division. The postmark is a pictorial one featuring a leopard seal and the ANARE emblem. The cover is postmarked on Dr Law's correct birthday of 21st April rather than the incorrect date of 25th April as printed on the envelope.
