PITCAIRN ISLAND SOLAR ECLIPSE 2005

On the 8th of April, 2005 a Annular Solar Eclipse was experienced by a long narrow band of the Pacific Ocean. Despite it's length the Eclipse's area of totality did not cross any land with the closet being Oeno in the Pitcairn Island group. Oeno is uninhabited but the rare chance to witness such an event was not to be missed by the many Eclipse chasers and so two cruise ships converged on the area locating themselves about 10 km north of Oeno where totality was at its maximim time length.

After considerable discussion, the Pitcairn Island Post office decided to issue a set of three stamps to commemorate the event. The designs of these stamps was based on immagery supplied by noted Eclipse chaser Glenn Schneider. With careful planning and the help of the Pitcairn Island Philatelic Bureau and friends on board the cruise ship "Discovery" we were able to arrange some rare "Oeno Island Solar Eclipse" covers and postcards. We offer these below while stocks last.
