YABBA CARDS
Yabba is the brand name adopted in 1999 for new cards to replace Telecom's TalkAway card series.
1999 YABBA "FREE FORM" SERIES

Note: This series is the first to be called "Yabba" cards, a name which is to replace the "TalkAway" name. In July 2001 the plastic cards shown above were replaced by cards of identical design printed on thinner cardboard. These reprints can also be distinguished by white panels on the reverse where the expiry date and code numbers are printed. |

Note: These cards are not branded Yabba but they fit in here most easily because unlike other Telecom "Boost" cards which are for recharging cellphones, these two cards are for use from any landline touch tone phone. |

Note: Telecom issued a series of 4 Adcards (Regular magnetic cards) in the late 1990's for various plumbing merchants with different companies having their names printed on the card reverses. With magnetic cards being replaced in late 1999 the idea of special phonecards for plumbers was continued but with a Yabba card instead. It is not known how many different companies have cards so it is possible other designs and values exist. |

The above card at left first appeared in 2002 and is printed on cardboard. The design at right which first appeared in 2004 is virtually identical to a holiday rewards plastic card previously issued as a Talkaway series card. The only differences are on the backs. |

Note: It appears that these "Call your Crew" cards caused a lot of confusion with the public and retailers not sure of their purpose. Later in the sales run the $15 cards started to appear with a small Yabba sticker on the face to indicate their status. |

The $5 value was issued in November 2003, the $15 in January 2004 while the $50 first appeared in March 2004. The $2 complimentary card first appeared in February, 2005 while the $30 card finally appeared in July 2005. |

The above cards differ from the previous set in that they have a registered (ie R in a circle) logo after the YABBA text rather than the previous trade mark (ie TM) symbol. They also now have a white back whereas the previous set had yellow backs |
