Note - These locals were issued by the Armed Forces Canteen Council which operates the only shop at Scott Base and were used during the 1988 to 1994 period when New Zealand Post did not offer any postal facillities for mail from Scott Base.
1982 CHRISTCHURCH PIGEON FLIGHT
The above cinderella sheet is listed here because the design shows the famous Robert Falcon Scott Statue in Christchurch. This memorial statue was sculpted by Scott's wife who was a famous sculptress and was paid for by the citizen's of Christchurch. The label was produced for use on Pigeon flimseys carried by the birds on a special commemorative flight from the base of the statue itself. |
