LYTTELTON

The tug boat "Lyttelton" is an historic coal fired steam tugboat built in 1907 by Ferguson Brothers in Port Glasgow in Scotland for the Lyttelton Harbour Board in New Zealand. After many years of service dating back to working with the vessels of the early Antarctic explorers Scott and Shackleton she was on retirement taken over by her own Preservation Society whocontinue to operate her on regular Harbour excursions on Lyttelton and sometimes on trips around Banks Peninsula to Akaroa Harbour. The view above shows "Lyttelton" departing for a harbour excursion on 27th November 1999. |
