CLIPPER ADVENTURER

The "Clipper Adventurer" is a small eco-tourism cruise vessel operated by Clipper Cruise Line of St. Louis in the USA.   It is only 1461 net tonage, registered in the Bahamas and carries 122 passengers.   She was build in 1976 as the Russian ice-strengthened vessel "Alla Tarasova".

ADVENTURER 1   1999 (December 22nd) cover from Port Stanley, Falkland Islands.  Price US$6

Note: The "Clipper Adventurer" had called into Stanley on the 20th of December in the course of a South Atlantic cruise. The cover is postmarked with the usual Stanley machine datestamp of 22nd December 1999.

The attractive  view at left shows the "Clipper Adventurer" amidst ice bergs in Antarctic waters.

The vessel has a ice-strengthened hull.

In January 2000 the "Clipper Adventurer" became trapped behind a 13-kilometre icefield and had to be rescued by the Argentinian Icebreaker "Almirante Irizar".  The rescue was effected on the 1st February 2000.

Note: the above postcard is an official "Clipper Adventurer" postcard and has the same view of the vessel amidst ice bergs as shown immediately preceeding this card. The "Clipper Adventurer " had arrived at Stanley on January 8th.

Note: The "Clipper Adventurer" returned to Port Stanley on Wednesday 27th February, 2001 for her final visit for the 2000-2001 season. The envelope has been posted at Mount Pleasant which is the Falkland Islands International Airport
