On the 4th March, 2005 Stirling & Co ceased business. Following the death of Bruce Alexandre in 2004, the company had found trading difficult and hence the decision to cease trading was taken.

Stirling & Co had become the largest stamp dealers in Christchurch in the 1990's and operated on a number of fronts. 

The stock and other business assets were subsequently sold by tender and acquired by John R. Mowbray Ltd of Otaki Junction.
